Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 28, 2026

The short version. StrideMeter has no accounts and no sign-up. Your runs, routes, and history are stored on your device, not on our servers. We don't show ads, we don't use third-party analytics or tracking, and we never sell your data. The only information that leaves your phone is an approximate location used to fetch weather for your run — and that's it.

This Privacy Policy explains how StrideMeter ("StrideMeter," "we," "us," or "our"), developed by Joshua Veltkamp, handles information in connection with the StrideMeter mobile application (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information the App handles

Location data

StrideMeter uses your device's GPS to record your route, distance, pace, and splits while you are on a run. This is the core function of the App. Your route and run data are stored locally on your device. We do not upload your routes or run history to our servers.

When you start a run, the App may send an approximate, coarsened location (rounded to roughly one kilometer) to a third-party weather service (Open-Meteo) so your coach can react to current conditions like rain, heat, or cold. This request contains only the rounded coordinates — it does not include your name, device identifier, or any account information, because the App has neither.

Motion & fitness data

With your permission, the App reads your device's motion sensors (accelerometer) to estimate your running cadence (steps per minute) so the coach can comment on your form. This processing happens entirely on your device and is not transmitted anywhere.

Microphone & speech recognition

If you use voice commands, the App accesses your microphone and uses Apple's on-device speech recognition to understand short spoken commands (for example, "how's my pace?"). This audio is processed by your device's operating system. StrideMeter does not record, store, or transmit your voice, and we do not receive your audio.

Health data

The current version of the App does not read from or write to Apple Health. If this changes in a future version, we will update this policy and request your explicit permission first.

Account & contact information

StrideMeter does not require an account. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any login credentials. If you choose to email us for support, we will receive whatever information you include in that message.

Analytics, advertising & tracking

StrideMeter contains no third-party advertising, no analytics SDKs, and no tracking technologies. We do not build a profile of you, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

2. How we use information

3. Where your data is stored & how long we keep it

Your run history and settings are stored locally on your device using your device's standard app storage. Because we don't operate accounts or sync servers, we don't hold copies of your runs. Your data remains on your device until you delete individual runs within the App or delete the App itself, which removes all of its locally stored data.

4. Third-party services

StrideMeter relies on a small number of third parties to function:

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.

5. Your choices & controls

6. Your privacy rights

Because StrideMeter stores your data on your own device and does not collect personal information on its servers, the most direct way to exercise any privacy right — access, correction, or deletion — is to view or delete your data within the App.

California residents (CCPA/CPRA). We do not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioral advertising. You have the right to know, delete, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To make a request, contact us using the details below.

EEA, UK & Switzerland residents (GDPR). Where applicable, our legal basis for processing is your consent (which you grant through device permissions) and the performance of the App's core function at your request. You have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and port your data, and to withdraw consent at any time by revoking permissions or deleting the App. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

7. Children's privacy

StrideMeter is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information through a support email, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Security

Your data is protected by your device's built-in security, including device passcode and encryption. Because we keep your run data on your device rather than on our servers, there is no central database of user runs to be breached. No method of storage or transmission is ever 100% secure, but keeping data local is our deliberate way of minimizing risk.

9. International users

The App is operated from the United States. The limited data that leaves your device (approximate location for weather) may be processed in countries other than your own. By using the App you understand that this limited processing may occur internationally.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the App evolves. When we make material changes, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, note the change in the App. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
